The function of the filter pipe hole, in addition to water intake, can prevent the rock particles around the borehole wall and soil from flowing into the borehole, leading to the blockage of the borehole, and can also play the role of supporting and protecting the borehole wall, so that the pumping hole can be used normally.

In some cases, it is not necessary to install the filter pipe when pumping water. For example, if there are some hard cracks, dissolved stream aquifer, and the shaft wall is stable without loose filling, it is not necessary to install the filter pipe when pumping water. However, loose pores, or broken bedrock aquifers, must be fitted with suitable filters.

At present, in large national projects, such as the south-to-north water diversion project, Olympic diving site water cube and other projects, the use of high-quality filter pipes, as well as bridge filter pipes.
